Canine hydrotherapy is particularly beneficial for dogs suffering from arthritis or before surgery to build up the muscle to aid recovery and is often used alongside canine physiotherapy as it allows exercise in a reduced weightbearing environment.
Before beginning hydrotherapy at our canine rehabilitation centre a full assessment will be completed this will indicate the appropriate session time, length of breaks and any specific areas which need to be targeted.
Whilst working in a reduced weightbearing environment your animal will still be working their muscles hard which develops condition and tone without adding stress to joints.
Following surgery, after wound, healing hydrotherapy can target muscle development and provide gentle exercise mobilising joints without pain.
During hydrotherapy the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems are used more than during land based exercise, this means overall fitness is improved and can contribute to weight loss.
